Diamondback Scapegoat Full-Suspension Park Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Overview

There’s a whole lot more to making a bike that’ll take a beating than just plastering on a skull and cross bones sticker. It’s the details that matter, like the Scapegoat’s confidence-inspiring (68/72-degree) geometry, massively-reinforced head tube junction and a burly, time-proven component spec that includes a Fox 36 fork and DHX 5.0 rear shock, Mavic CrossMax SX wheelset and Avid CODE disc brakes

Diamondback Scapegoat Full-Suspension Park Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Feature

  • Full-suspension park mountain bike with aggressive all-mountain 6-inch aluminum frame
  • Fox 36 Float RC2 fork with 160mm travel; Truvativ Hammerschmidt FR 2-speed cranks
  • SRAM XO 9-speed trigger shifters; Avid CODE 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes
  • 26-inch WTB Prowler MX 2.5 (front) and Stout 2.3 (rear) tires; WTB Laser V Race saddle

Diamondback Scapegoat Full-Suspension Park Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Specifications

When Diamondback brought the original Scapegoat to the 2007 Interbike trade show, the company intended it only as a prototype to show off the revolutionary Knuckle Box suspension system. The response from onlookers, however, was overwhelming, and the bike quickly went from concept bike to limited-edition release. Like the original, the 2009 Scapegoat is an elite-level bike that's only available only in limited quantities. The aggressive all-mountain/park bike employs Diamondback's Mission-proven frame design, with 6 inches of travel in the rear and 160mm in the front to compliment the Fox 36 Float RC2 fork. The Scapegoat's frame is essentially a Mission frame, but with a more robust straight-gauge down tube for added strength, a 1.5-inch head tube, and an ISCG chain guide mount. The list of parts--which also includes Truvativ Hammerschmidt FR two-speed cranks, SRAM XO nine-speed trigger shifters, Avid CODE four-piston hydraulic disc brakes, and a WTB Laser V Race saddle--looks like something you'd jot down on a wish list after winning the lottery. Fortunately for you, Diamondback put them into a single package and made it surprisingly affordable.

Knuckle Box Suspension System
All the scientific reasoning and engineering jargon in the world won't help you understand how the Knuckle Box suspension system performs. To truly appreciate how the system works, you really need to ride one. However, all bikes with Knuckle Box systems do share some common traits. The first is an optimized wheel rate, the parameter that defines what the suspension will feel like when riding. The Knuckle Box is shaped in such a way that the wheel rate starts off linear and finishes slightly progressive. This results in great small bump compliance, more perceived travel, and great bottom-out protection. Riders will also enjoy an optimized axle path--the parameter that defines your pedal feedback. By manipulating the pivot locations of the Knuckle Box system, Diamondback has come up with a design that produces very low chain-growth values, so you barely feel any pedal feedback at all. Finally, the Knuckle Box offers a low center of gravity. With most of the mass concentrated low in the frame, the bike feels lighter and more balanced, and maneuvers better than other mountain bikes.

The Scapegoat's Knuckle Box suspension system helps the bike feel light, smooth, and maneuverable.
